Laura San Giacomo was born on November 14, 1962 in West Orange, New Jersey and grew up in Denville. She was born to Mr. John San Giacomo and Mrs. MaryJo. Laura went to Morris Knolls High School for his secondary education, and this is the period she started her acting career. After high school, Laura decided to take the career seriously-she enrolled for a Fine Arts Degree in Carnegie Mello School of Drama in Pittsburgh where she majored in acting and graduated in 1984.Laura appeared in numerous plays after graduating. She was featured in the drama like; Italian American Reconciliation, The Tempest, As You Like It, Garry Marshall - Lowell Ganz, The Princeton/McCarter and Romeo and Juliet.

In 1987, Laura began her series of TV appearance. In 1988, she was cast in Protect Witness season two, episode 13. In 1989, she appeared in Miami Vice “Leap of Faith” season two, episode 13. Though in the same year (1989), Laura gained a lot of popularity through the film Sex, Lies, and Videotape by Steven Soderbergh, where she proved to the international community that she had become a qualified and professional actor. And this resulted in her nomination to a Golden Globe, which she received a Los Angeles Film Critics Association-New Generation Award.

Laura has been featured in various films in role of different characters since 1988. Some of the films include: Miles from Home (1988), Quigley Down Under and Vital Signs (1990), Under Suspicion and Once Around (1991), Where The Day Takes You (1992), Nina Takes a Lover (1994), Suicide Kings (1997), Eat Your Heart Out (1999).

Laura is a mother and a wife. She was married to her first husband Cameron Dye an actor too in 1990. They were blessed with a son, Mason, who was born five years after their marriage. In 1998, the couple divorced and in 2000, Laura married Matt Adler also an actor also. Apart from acting Laura loves playing piano, golf, tennis, gymnastic, ice skating, ballet, and horseback riding.

Laura has a big heart towards the disabled, her son being one of them. She is the director and the founder of the CHIME Charter Elementary School - a school for children with all sorts of disabilities. This is a charitable organization school that provides public education for free.
