Leon Louise Lewis is a well known British songwriter, singer, vocal producer and a welfare campaigner for animals. She was born as the middle child of three and the only daughter of her father Aural Josiah Lewis and mother Maria Lewis in 3rd April 1985 in Islington, London, United Kingdom. Her mother was just a social worker while her father was a youth offending officer.
The famous singer went to school at BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology where she built her musical career. After school, she indiscriminately took various jobs including receptionist and waitress to earn money that she could later use to buy time in the recording studios. Lewis wrote her maiden song at the age of twelve, and she won a talent show at age thirteen.
At one point, Lewis had thought of quitting the music industry thinking that her career was headed nowhere. However, under her mentor Simon Cowell, Leona Lewis auditioned for The X Factor third series of 2006, and she sung her song ‘Over the Rainbow’. This hit was made famous by the ‘The Wizard of Oz’ film. In the auditions, the young British singer made it to the final stages and gunned down all the other competitors and emerged the winner with 60 % of the total votes. This was the turning point of Lewis’s musical career, and she received a million British Pounds recording contract.
Soon after the completion of 2006 X Factor third series Audition, Leona Lewis released her first single hit ‘A Moment Like This’, the hit was a version of the first hit of Kelly Clarkson. Upon release, the Lewis hit sold stunningly with 50,000 downloaded copies within 30 minutes. The hit emerged the Christmas number-one among the single hits, and it outsold the Top 40 hits combined. In January 2007, the hit was shortlisted for the British award in the single category at BRIT Awards.
‘A Moment Like This’ is not the only hit produced by Leon Lewis, there are other hits that have also had a class of their own including the Bleeding Love (2007), Better in Time (2007), My Hands (2009), I Got You (2009), One More Sleep (2013) and many others not listed herein.
