Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on February 2, 1977 in Barranquilla Columbia. Shakira is a multi-talented Columbian songwriter, singer, dancer, record producer as well as a philanthropist entrepreneur. She is also a choreographer and model as well. At the beginning of her career, she did not make much success both commercially and critically. She released her first 2 studio albums in the early ‘90s. The albums were named Peligro and Magia.

Pies Descalzos, her major label debut was released in 1996 this piece earned her wider fame in Latin-America. DόndeEstán los Ladrones was her fourth album. It was released in 1998 and it was considerably successful. The album, Laundry Service, Shakira’s fifth album, marked her entrance into the English language platform. The lead single of the album was Wherever, Whenever, a single that rocked the music industry during that time. The song became 2002’s bestselling single.
Her success in the music arena further flourished with the release of Fijación Oral vol.1, her sixth album and her seventh album; Oral Fixation vol.2 which was 2005. Hips Don’t Lie was in the seventh. The song was a huge success, both critically and commercially and it became the best-selling 21st century song.
She afterwards released her eighth and ninth albums; these are She Wolf from 2009 and Sale el Sol from 2010. Both albums were critically acclaimed but they were not commercially successful as they received limited promotion. There was a problem that led to a tense relationship between Shakira and the label; Epic Records.
In 2010, Shakira did a song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The song; “This Time For Africa” Also known as WakaWaka was an enormous success. It has recorded history as the all-time best selling World Cup song. The song’s video had more than 813 million views which made it the 9thmost viewed video on You Tube. From 2013, Shakira has been rendering coaching services on The Voice, an American version. She has made appearances in 2 of the seven season of the production.
